Dead pigs - just seen on the dutch TV news

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just saw an item on the dutch news on "swine pest" in germany. As the dutch used to call bird flu "bird pest" I am not sure if it is pig influenza or not - but this could be very significant. Does anyone know more about this story ?

We are watching for dead pigs, especially in Germany, right ?

Note added later: it is classical swine fever as far as I can find. Moving this to headlines instead of breaking news (if I can find out how to do so).

Do you think that some pigs could be co-infected with swine flu and H5N1 without exhibiting symptoms of H5N1? This is likely not a co-infection with recombination possible, but I'd like to know more so I can recognize a report of a potentially dangerous coinfection when I read about it.

      Thanks Toaster2 for the post.

Does anyone know what kind of communicable organism(s) cause swine fever? Guess I need to go do some googling.
