7 cases of measles reported in Denmark
COPENHAGEN, Denmark, March 7 (UPI) -- Health officials in Denmark fear a comeback of the measles after seven reported cases and more cases are believed to be unreported, a report said.
The Board of Health said doctors and patients have not taken the issue of the childhood disease serious enough, including ensuring everyone is inoculated, the Copenhagen Post reports.
In neighboring Sweden, six measles cases have been reported.
Of the Copenhagen cases, doctors said none were transmitted to each other, leading officials to believe it was passed on by people they don't know about.
Dr. Tove Ronne of the Danish Board of Health said symptoms include fever, runny nose, red and light sensitive eyes and rashes.
Ronne warned that untreated, measles could result in encephalitis or death.
Dr. Steffen Glismann of the Statens Serum Institute fears a spread of unchecked measles will turn into an epidemic.
Officials are calling on anyone who hasn't been inoculated to do so.
