    Chikungunya: Action plan implementation reviewed
Monday March 20 2006 12:44 IST <small>KURNOOL: District Collector Vikas Raj has directed the health officials to conduct awareness camps on chikungunya which has spread to 26 of the 53 mandals in the district.

He addressed the Health Department officials at a meeting here on Sunday and reviewed the implementation of the action plan prepared to check the spread of the disease.

He also asked them to prepare another action plan for checking mosquitoes which were the main cause for transmitting the disease.

As part of the action plan, all the people were asked to throw away the drinking water stored in their houses and fill the containers with fresh water which would be supplied across the district on March 22, March 27, March 31 and April 4.

People were also advised to use mosquito nets, clean the air coolers, water tanks, tap pits, old tins and other water containers where ever there was a possibility for mosquitoes to breed.

District Medical and Health Officer K Saiprasad said the main cause for the spread of the disease was bite of the mosquito Aedis aegypti. Those affected suffer from continuous fever and body pains, he said but added that the disease was not fatal.
