    Russian chief sanitary inspector: bird flu moves form Southern Russia to Siberia



    On March 21, Russian Chief Sanitary Inspector Gennady Onishchenko stated at a session of the Russian parliament, that if city authorities follow recommendation of Rospotrebnadzor (Russian Federal Consumer Rights Protection and Human Health Control Service ? REGNUM), and introduce strict sanitation order, all tidy bird will leave cities.



    Onishchenko said that this is the way to get rid of the unhealthy vermins but without bloodshed. He also said that he was concerned about nesting carrion birds in the cities, such as crows, because they are very vulnerable to bird flu. As REGNUM already informed, on March 20, Moscow Central Veterinarian Service discovered perished crows and other birds. Onishchenko said that currently, the situation is out of his jurisdiction, because every city has its own monitoring of bird perish.



    Onishchenko informed the MPs that vaccination of poultry already started in Russia. Spring hunt has been banned. He also stressed that bird flu problem moves form Southern Russia to Siberia, because birds will fly there. Money has already been distributed among the country?s regions to finance vaccination and compensate possible losses to the population.
