Malaysian Latest H1N1 Flu Victim In Singapore
By Zakaria Abdul Wahab
SINGAPORE, June 9 (Bernama) -- Singapore has confirmed two more cases of Influenza A (H1N1), bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the city-state to 17.
The Health Ministry said today the latest cases are imported ones with travel history to affected areas, and the two patients, including one Malaysian woman who works here, have relatively mild symptoms and are in stable condition.
In a statement, the ministry said the 16th case was a 40-year-old Indian national who was working in Singapore.
He went to Melbourne, Australia, on May 31 on a business trip and returned to Singapore on Singapore Airlines SQ238 on June 6.
On the following morning, he developed symptoms but only sought medical attention at a private hospital yesterday afternoon and was later admitted to the Communicable Disease Centre at a local hospital which confirmed his infection last night.
The ministry said the 17th case was a 25-year-old Malaysian who works as a stewardess with Singapore Airlines.
She was also in Melbourne and developed symptoms on June 5 while she was on holiday there.
She returned to Singapore on Emirates EK 405 on June 7, but the thermal scanner at the airport did not pick her up as she did not have fever then, the ministry said.
Yesterday, she went to a clinic for a non-flu related medical condition but was immediately referred and admitted to the CDC which also confirmed her infection last night.
The ministry said contact tracing had been initiated for the 16th and 17th confirmed cases.
