Sailors To Compete In Asian Youth Sailing Despite NSC's Directive To Withdraw

LANGKAWI, June 28 (Bernama) -- Two national sailors who are already in Singapore for the Asian Youth Sailing Championships which started today, would continue their participation despite a directive from the National Sports Council (NSC) to withdraw, due to the Influenza A(H1N1) outbreak.

Malaysian Yachting Association (MYA) general manager Mohd Afendy Abdullah said the two sailors, Mohd Amirul Shafiq and Khairuneeta Mohd Afendy had arrived in Singapore two days ago and will compete in the Byte C2 category.

Mohd Afendy in an e-mail to Bernama said national sailors have been trained to take care of their health, including precautionary measures against H1N1 as they have been given vaccine and their body temperatures monitored every six hours.

He added that Singapore, as the organiser, had also ensured maximum control and preventive measures by screening everyone at the venue.

"Every participant has been given a log book to record their body temperature while cleanliness at the competition venues are inspected constantly," he said.

Mohd Afendy who accompanied the duo said though Singapore and Thailand are Malaysia's main contenders in the championships, both Mohd Amirul and Khairuneeta are capable of winning medals.

They are already arrived at the field, so ...

Another thing here is a reporter misslead or it could be some news:

#1: "including precautionary measures against H1N1 as they have been given vaccine and their body temperatures monitored every six hours"

Given an seasonal flu vaccine shot, or it was an newly recent hammered novel flu vaccine jab, reacheable by some folks now?

Sometimes, Tamiflu is reported as a vaccine, not a drug treatment. Could simply be sloppy reporting or misunderstanding.
