Spokesperson Fidel Hadebe could not provide further information.
On Wednesday, the department said the recent death of a 44-year-old KwaZulu-Natal man could not conclusively be linked to swine flu.
The man's death was initially thought to be the second death in the country.
Until Friday, only the death of 22-year-old Stellenbosch University student Ruan Muller was directly linked to the H1N1 virus based on laboratory confirmation by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases.
