Swine flu toll rises to 9

NINE South Africans have died of swine flu since the disease broke out in the country on June 18.
An unidentified person believed to have contracted swine flu died at the weekend. The swine flu variant of the H1N1 virus is expected to be confirmed as the cause of death today.
A doctor manning the National Institute for Communica ble Diseases? swine flu hotline said that one person had died from swine flu at the weekend.
He did not reveal any further details.
?A couple of deaths have not yet been confirmed,? the doctor said.
NICD spokeswoman Nombuso Shabalala told The Times yesterday that the last confirmed swine flu death was that of a 53-year-old man from Randfontein, on the West Rand, on August 14. She would not identify him.
