Thompkins Middle School reaches 20 percent absenteeism
It's the first time this year that absenteeism at an EVSC school has climbed to that level. School systems are required by state law to report to the local health department a rate of 20 percent or higher.
Marsha Jackson, an EVSC spokeswoman, said that at the recommendation of the state epidemiologist, all Thompkins families are receiving a reminder that students must be free of fever for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicine before they return to school.
The school system does not have a breakdown of the reasons for student absences at Thompkins, Jackson said.
Absenteeism at Boonville Middle School reached 25 percent on Oct. 2 but then fell back to normal levels, according to the Warrick County School Corp.
