    Hello Common.,

I'm incline to interpreting this machine traslation number as an machine "temporal glitch", in a sense that the sentence are all an estimated probability/statistical estimation which they compute last week to be aspected 64 milion at all, but now they re-computed the estimations to be aspected at all (in a future) 83 milions.

#1: "Estimated number of patients is about 83 million, an increase from approximately 64 million people last week."

    Am I correct ...

I just spent a good 45 minutes reading various articles on the 10th & 11 tami resistant cases...and the increase in flu, in Japan.
I came to the conclusion, that I just couldn't post any of the articles, because the dates are scrambled, the translations are not legible, and ended up closing out the whole search.

I would look for something in your native language, or mine regarding Japan. The translations are just too unreliable.

        H1N1 vaccine side effects reported
        Kyodo News
Seven of the 22,000 medical workers vaccinated against H1N1 swine flu have developed side effects, the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry said.

The finding, released Friday, was revealed after a four-day survey was completed Thursday to ensure the new vaccine was working on doctors and nurses at 67 designated hospitals run by the National Hospital Organization.

Four of the seven developed serious side effects, including vomiting and diminished consciousness, but all are recovering, the ministry said. The other three complained of minor symptoms, such as developing hives.

Meanwhile, other hospitals reported that 25 patients were exhibiting adverse effects from the new vaccine, including two serious cases.

The ministry said half of the 32 people who developed symptoms were found to have food and drug allergies or allergic asthma.

The survey will be followed by large-scale vaccinations of the general public in November, with priority given to people at high risk of developing complications from the flu.

Commonground....my Japanese is a bit rusty, but I hunted up the article. First of all, it should be 830,000 (and not 83 million) which increased from 640,000 (not 64 million).

I will look over the full article tomorrow and try and polish the machine translation. Japan has 127 million people, but the articles on H1N1 I first saw did not reflect the level of anxiety reflected in the machine translation numbers.

            Thank you RainbowLake and Commonground.

So, this class of citizens must be carefull,
            hopefully when on large scale,
they stil could take a vacc. if neccessary.

So the machine tran. milions numbers are 10 times less than.
If it's so, ~1 milion of actualy infected is stil a considerable number.

            ___
Could we multiplicate the infected registered patients number 10 times,
because of the silent spreaders and light cases,
than we reach 8 milions of potentialy affected cases now ... (?)

Here is a more polished translation (though likely not perfect as I am not a native speaker of Japanese)

New Flu: Full-fledged Epidemic in the Osaka Metropolitan Area?as well as Akita, Okinawa

On the 23rd (October), the National Institute of Infectious Diseases announced that based on the reports from 5,000 nationwide treatment facilities, from the 12th to the 18th of October, the number of flu patients had risen to 17.65 per facility.

The majority of these are seen as being the new influenza and this was the largest number seen since the beginning of the new (H1N1) epidemic and topped the highest level of 12.92 (patients per facility) seen last week.

This has increased from last week?s 640,000 patients to about 830,000 patients.

Looking at the prefectures, Hokkaido has the highest with 57.93 (patients per facility) which has exceeded last year?s epidemic peak.

Aichi remains the same with 31.78, Tokyo and Osaka and 7 cities/towns/prefectures were over 20 (patients per treatment facility).

According to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, ?It has become a full-fledged epidemic in the Osaka metropolitan area, Akita, and also Okinawa.? [author?s name]

                    Hello Snowy,

could it be assesed the input numbers source of the cited summed number?

Is the (below 100 thousands) number of patients/cases a result of:

                    1. ___

                    (5000 x 17.65) = 88.250

from inputs cited in the post #1 machine translation:

                    "Mainichi Shimbun October 23, 2009 13:32

National Institute of Infectious Diseases December 23, 5000 about

                    ."

                    2. ___

another source of number cases = 83.000

or this number is 10x more:

                    3. ___

it is the machine second polished translation number from the statement #7 ?

                    830.000

                    #7:
"This has increased from last week’s 640,000 patients to about 830,000 patients.

                    ___

830.000 is stil huge, but 83.000 is relatively small considering the early dissemination there.
