      • Poultry within the infected premises were immediately depopulated. A total of 13,494 chickens were destroyed within 1-km radius from the infected premises.
      • Movement of poultry and poultry products within infected townships was restricted. A total of 88 premises in Mayangone Township, 52 premises in Mingalardon Township and 5 premises in Yinmarbin Township were put under quarantine throughout the period.
      • Active surveillance using clinical case definition was carried out in every household within infected townships. Samples were collected within restricted and control zones. One hundred and fifty-one cloacal swab samples, one hundred and fifty-one cloacal swabs and 83 cloacal swab samples were collected from Mayangone, Mingalardon and Yinmarbin townships, respectively, as part of the active surveillance in infected areas.
      • The active clinical surveillance has been conducted nationwide starting from March 2010. A total poultry population of 7,764 farms under surveillance were examined and found clinically healthy. No evidence of HPAI disease was observed.
      • Targeted surveillance was carried out during 3 months in Myanmar. The risk areas were defined as areas with history of AI outbreaks, wet land, high density of poultry population kept in sector 3 and 4, and certain risk species. During the targeted surveillance, a total of 15,665 cloacal swab samples were collected. All collected samples were tested negative for HPAI virus. Laboratory tests were performed at Yangon and Mandalay Diagnostic Laboratories of the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department using virus isolation and RT-PCR.
      • Thorough disinfection was implemented within infected zone, infected premises and also in areas with higher risk.
