Foot and mouth disease in neighbouring district threatens Gulu
By Ojok James Onono
Uganda Up-country journalist, Gulu
Gulu district vetinary officer, Dr.Tonny Aliro has appealed to the community in Gulu including the non-governmental organizations, butchers, among other cattle business men to always work with his office before they buy any cattle to avoid the transfer of the disease in the district since neighbouring districts of Kabedomaido, Alebtong and Amuria where most of the animals slaughtered in the district come from.
...
He dismissed rumors that were going around that foot and mouth disease was in Gulu, saying that the case was reported last year in September in Amuru, and in Pabbo, and said that he worked together with the DVO of Amuru and there is none of the case in Gulu.
He added that there was a suspected outbreak of Contagious Caprine plenropneunomia, a disease that that affects goats and sheep.
He added that the suspected disease has so far killed about 30 goats in Awach Sub County in Gulu district.
