5-year-old child in Puerto Rico has tested positive for influenza A, and is being treated as the first possible case of swine flu on the island, local Health Department officials told island news media during an emergency press conference late Saturday afternoon.
State Epidemiologist Johnny Rull?n, a former Health secretary, said there was little chance the child infected others on the flight because patients are most able to infect others a day before they experience symptoms, and the child was already in Puerto Rico at that time, according to local media reports.
?The child is being kept in isolation in the hospital and when he is released he will be kept at home with pertinent instructions of attention and prevention including the use of a facemask for 10 days,? Rivera Due?o said.
