              http://www.flu.oregon.gov/articles/Pages/FluStats.aspx for the above post. Hospitalised cases show a slightly different picture. How do the figures tie in with the population density?

                      Week 49:
                      "Oregon?s death rate for the entire pandemic period (since April, 2009) is 1.9 deaths per 100,000 Oregonians. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate the national rate of H1N1-related deaths from April ? November 14th to be 3.2 per 100,000.

                      Females constitute 689 (54%) of hospitalized cases.
                      Males constitute 59% of influenza deaths.

                      Nearly 100% of influenza identified at OSPHL this season has been pandemic
                      H1N1."

                      Additionally, there appears to be no deaths in age-group 19-24 and the vast majority of hospitalizations had underlying conditions. Charts and graphs on website.

                          ? One influenza hospitalization and no deaths were reported for the week ending January 23rd.
                          ? Since September 1, 2009, 1,307* patients have been hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza statewide (950 adults; 356 children). Rates of hospitalization are substantially higher among individuals with underlying conditions, including pregnant women, children with neuromuscular disease or seizure disorder, and adults with chronic lung disease or diabetes.
                          ? Since September 1, 2009, sixty-six people have died from influenza (62 adults; 4 children). Of the four pediatric deaths, all had neuro-developmental conditions. Of the 63 deaths for whom information about medical conditions is known, 56 (89%) had one or more underlying conditions.
                          ? Oregon?s death rate for the entire pandemic period (since April, 2009) is 2 deaths per 100,000 Oregonians. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate the national rate of H1N1-related deaths from April ? December 12th to be 3.7 per 100,000.
                          ? All of our influenza-like illness (ILI) syndromic surveillance systems report low levels of ILI; ILINet rates are significantly below expected for this time of year, and Kaiser Permanente NW ILI levels are also slightly below levels seen in previous seasons.
                          ? Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in Oregon increased substantially from the previous week; the official start of the RSV season was the week ending January 9th, 2009

                              RSV in Oregon decreased this week following three continuously
                              increasing weeks of activity but still remains high. The official start of the RSV season was the week ending January 9th, 2010.
