Swine flu death toll hits 147 in Iran
    Sun, 06 Dec 2009 00:45:53 GMT

An Iranian health official has announced that swine flu has claimed the lives of 147 Iranians across the country.

?Some 3,762 individuals have tested positive for A/H1N1 virus in the country, with 147 deaths,? the Fars news agency quoted Deputy Health Minister Hassan Emami-Razavi as saying on Saturday.

?A wave of swine flu has? ended in Iran. A number of schools were closed across the country following the outbreak of the disease,? he added.

The deputy health minister also stated that Iran is ready to respond to the third wave of A/H1N1 virus and called on Iranians to take basic precautionary measures.

Emami-Razavi had earlier said that the government had allocated $20 million for two million doses of the A/H1N1 flu vaccine, which can be used to immunize one million individuals.

Swine flu was first detected in Mexico in April 2009 and was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization in June.
