Yet another Oregon cat dies from H1N1

    Thursday, Dec 10, 2009 @09:31am CST http://mystateline.com/content/fulltext/?cid=121591

(Portland, OR) -- Another Oregon cat has died from the H1N1 virus.

It turns out the cat was from the same owner as the first one who died last month.

The state has the only two known cases of H1N1 killing cats in the entire country.*

Both cats received the virus from their human owner, instead of the other way around in normal animal-to-human infections.

Public health veterinarian Emilio DeBess is working with the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at Oregon State University to find out why cats are susceptible to the virus.

    * actually, another cat in Pennsylvania died from H1N1 on 6 November
