Second Woodbury County resident dies of H1N1

By Molly Montag Journal staff writer | Posted: Friday, December 11, 2009 3:25 pm

SIOUX CITY -- A second adult living in Woodbury County has died from complications of H1N1, officials say.

Siouxland District Health Department Deputy Director Chuck Cipperley said local officials have few details about the person's death, but said the resident died in December.

This is the second person in Woodbury County who has died as a result of the H1N1 flu virus and the third Siouxlander. A Monona County resident also died from the virus.

Although the number of cases reported to state health officials has decreased, Cipperley said local officials have been told to expect a third wave of H1N1 cases during the traditional flu season in January, February and possibly into March.

An H1N1 clinic for people who fall into the priority groups will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday at the Long Lines Family Recreation Center, 401 Gordon Drive, Sioux City.

The priority groups include: pregnant women, people who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age, health care and emergency medical services workers, people ages 6 months to 24 years and those 25-64 who have certain health conditions that put them at higher risk for complications from H1N1.

Those who plan to go to Saturday's clinic are encouraged to go to Siouxland District Health Department's web site, www.siouxlanddistricthealth.org, to review information and download H1N1 consent forms.
