  • Swine Flu cases reported in Libya

About 1,005 Swine Flu cases, including one fatality, have been reported in Libya, according to the Secretary of the Libyan General People's Committee for Health and Environment, Mohamed Hijazi.

Speaking on Sunday in Tripoli, the Libyan capital, at a meeting of the Libyan High Commission to control the swine flu pandemic, Hijazi stressed that the figure was considered modest compared to other countries worldwide, noting that the result was due to the preventive measures implemented by Libya since the outbreak of the disease.

Hijazi, who is the Chairman of the High Commission, emphasised the need to continue to immunize the people against the disease, stressing the key role of the media in raising awareness on the A/H1N1 virus and in promoting the immunization campaign.

The Commission also reviewed measures currently in place at Libyan borders as part of the fight against the pandemic.

About 500,000 Libyans have been immunized against the disease since 4 January.

A medical team of 1,770 staff spread across 1,600 health centres in the country are involved in the immunization campaign.
