Anderson Hospital restricting visitors after increase in flu cases

MARYVILLE -- Anderson Hospital is restricting visitors because of an increase in the flu.
Anderson has requested that anyone with flu symptoms such as a cough, runny nose or fever should stay off the patient floors. Access to the Pavilion for Women is restricted to immediate family only: parents, siblings and grandparents.

Anderson spokesman Natalie Head said the decision was a precautionary measure, which comes from a new policy put into place after the swine flu outbreak in 2009. Head said the hospital has seen a 23-percent increase at its emergency room during the week after Christmas and more than five positive flu tests came through its labs, which is its criteria for restriction of visitors. ...
