A further 13 people with flu have died in Scotland in the past week, new figures revealed.
Health Protection Scotland (HPS) said 12 of them had influenza A (H1N1) 2009, known as swine flu, while the other had influenza B.
However, the figure is down on the previous week, ending January 10, when 17 people with flu died.
HPS said 28 people with laboratory-confirmed swine flu and one with influenza B needed intensive care treatment because of severe infection in the week ending January 17.
Since the beginning of the flu season, there have been 145 intensive care cases and 40 deaths, almost all of whom are understood to have been infected with swine flu.
The Scottish Government said epidemiologists have confirmed that the number of deaths is not out of line with expectations....more
