ASHEVILLE ? Preventive measures to combat the spread of germs have perhaps never been so prominent in the game plans of Western North Carolina high school coaches.
A male and female Roberson soccer player contracted swine flu during a camp earlier this summer, the only known cases among local prep athletes. Two Mars Hill College football players have also been diagnosed with symptoms of the H1N1 virus. A suspected case of swine flu in an Erwin football player has yet to be confirmed.
Both Roberson soccer players are healthy and back at practice, coach Rob Wilcher said Wednesday.
Monday marks the first day of official competition for the 2009-10 school year.
