Major Chch hotel condemned

Another major Christchurch hotel will be demolished as the future of the quake-stricken city was made a little clearer today.
Earlier today, it was announced 860 properties in Kaiapoi and 80 in Pines Beach would be reclassified from the orange zone to the red zone, meaning they will need to be abandoned.
This has been followed by confirmation from the owners of the Crowne Plaza Hotel that the badly damaged building will not be rebuilt, although they have signalled that they intend to keep a presence in Christchurch.
