  • Connecticut 2011-2012 Flu Season: Weeks 40-23 FINAL REPORT

    Weeks 40-42 (Sporadic)
    A total of 8 positive influenza test reports have been received including: 2 Type A (subtypes unspecified) and 6 influenza B viruses. These 8 positive influenza reports were identified in individuals residing in 5 of Connecticut?s 8 counties including: Fairfield (4), Middlesex (1), New Haven (1), New
    London (1) and Tolland (1).

    Of the patients with confirmed influenza infections, 7 were hospitalized and include: 1 with Type A (subtypes unspecified) and 6 with Type B influenza.

    No fatal influenza-associated infections have been reported.

    The percentage of outpatient visits with influenza-like illness has remained low and accounts for less than 1% of all patient visits
    The number of weekly hospital pneumonia admissions has also remained low (less than 350 statewide) and less than 5% of all admissions.


    No fatal influenza-associated infections have been reported during this period.
    A total of 9 positive influenza test reports have been reported during this period including: 2 Type A (subtypes unspecified), 6 influenza B viruses, and 1 of unknown type. These 9 positive influenza reports were identified in individuals residing in 5 of Connecticut?s 8 counties including: Fairfield (5), Middlesex (1), New Haven (1), New London (1) and Tolland (1).

      The number of weekly hospital pneumonia admissions has also remained low (less than 350 statewide) and less than 5% of all admissions until MMWR week 44, in which a spike in admissions was observed.
      A total of 8 persons hospitalized with influenza-associated illness have been reported from the week of Sunday, August 28 ? Saturday, September 3, 2011 (MMWR week 35) through MMWR week 44 and include: 2 with Type A unspecified, and 6 with Type B.
      No fatal influenza-associated infections have been reported during this period.
      A total of 10 positive influenza test reports have been reported during this period including: 3 Type A (subtypes unspecified), 6 influenza B viruses, and 1 of unknown type.
      These 10 positive influenza reports were identified in individuals residing in 5 of Connecticut?s 8 counties including: Fairfield (5), Middlesex (2), New Haven (1), New London (1) and Tolland (1).

        The percentage of outpatient visits with influenza-like illness has remained low and accounts for less than 1% of all patient visits.

        The number of weekly hospital pneumonia admissions had also remained low (less than 350 statewide) and less than 5% of all admissions until MMWR week 44, in which a spike in admissions was observed. Reported pneumonia admissions decreased during MMWR week 45.

        A total of 8 persons hospitalized with influenza-associated illness have been reported and include: 2 with Type A unspecified, and 6 with Type B.

        No fatal influenza-associated infections have been reported.

        A total of 10 positive influenza test reports have been reported including: 3 Type A (subtypes unspecified), 6 influenza B viruses, and 1 of unknown type.
