    Poultry disease breaks out in Shariatpur

    Shariatpur, JAN 13: Poultry diseases like Gambura, Ranikhet and dysentery have broken out in an the epidemic form in all the six upazilas of the district, specially at Bhedarganj and Gosairhat. About 5,000 boiler fowls and ducks died of these diseases as on January 9.
    Boiler hen trader and farm owner Md Babul from Chhaygaon union in Bhedargonj upazila told this correspondent that he lost 900 hens and ducks during the period. Shariatpur district livestock office sources said that poultry diseases like Gambura, Ranikhet and dysentery generally spread out in the winter season due to cold wave.

    ....Hens and ducks are being sold in the markets at throughway price due to absence of buyers, a retailer said. Meanwhile, fowls of diseased chickens and ducks are being served in the wayside restaurants and hotels at Bhedargonj, Sajonpur and Damudya Bazars, it is alleged. The price of egg, fish and beef has shot up abnormally in the district.
