Care donates equipment to prevent bird flu to Mayanmar
Yangon, March 9 (NNN-MNA) The international humanitarian agency CARE has donated 112 items of equipment comprising pesticide, spray bombs, suits, gloves, boots and pairs of glasses worth 3.6 million kyat to Myanmar?s Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department.
The donation was handed over by Peter Newsun, the country director of CARE, the Co-operative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere.
The equipment will be used in prevention and control of bird flu in Yangon division.
The regional Bird Flu Co-ordinator of the Food and Agiculture Organization (FAO), Dr. Wantanee Kalpravidh, Bird Flu Bio-security expert Dr. Larry Allen and laboratory technician Dr. Sudarad Damrongwatanapokin of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) accompanied by veterinarians of LBVD, inspected two bird flu suspected poultry farms in Mayangon and Hlinethaya townships on Wednesday and conducted tasks to control and prevent against bird flu.
No bird flu has been detected in Yangon division Wednesday.
A clarification meeting on prevention and control of avian flu in Yangon division was held at Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Office on Tuesday.
The Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council and Commander of Yangon Command, Maj-Gen Hla Htay Win, called for co-operation in implementing preventive measures against bird flu.
