    Cholera Hits Accra Again

    THE GREATER Accra Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has urged residents in Accra to adhere to strict sanitation practices as parts of the region have reported cases of cholera.

    A statement signed by the Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Edward Antwi said anyone who experiences frequent loose watery stools and vomiting should immediately seek treatment at the nearest clinic or hospital.

    A cholera outbreak in Ghana last year claimed over 70 lives out of 4,586 cases recorded. Two thousand seven hundred and fifty six cases and 31 deaths were recorded in Accra.

    Cholera outbreak: Adabraka polyclinic records 33 cases

    The Adabraka Polyclinic in Accra has recorded 33 cholera cases in two weeks.

    The cholera outbreak was noticed by the hospital staff two weeks ago but no death has since been recorded.

    Victims were said to have contracted the disease from the Adabraka, Odorna, Mamobi and Kasoa-Ofankor areas.

      Accra, Apr 3, GNA -The Accra Metropolitan Assembly(AMA) has confirmed 11 deaths from cholera in two weeks and called for strict adherence to basic hygiene practices to curb the spread of the disease in the Metropolis.
      At a press conference in Accra, the Health Director of the AMA, Dr. Simpson Anim Boateng, said five of the deaths were recorded at Maamobi Polyclinic, two at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, one at 37 Military Hospital, One at La Hospital, one at Ridge Hospital and one at a private facility.

        At least thirteen people have been confirmed dead in the latest cholera outbreak that has hit the capital, Accra.

        600 more are bed ridden in various hospitals across the capital since the first case was reported last month.

        This was confirmed by Dr Edward Antwi Deputy Greater Accra region Health Director in an interview with Joy News.

          Over 1000 cholera cases recorded in Greater Accra

          Over one thousand cases of Cholera were reported in the first quarter of 2012 in the Greater Accra region alone thus according to the Regional Health Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Irene Agyepong-Amartefio.

          According to her although there has been an increment in cholera cases, lesser deaths have been recorded. In an interview with Citi News, Dr. Agyepong-Amarteifio said the low death rate recorded can be attributed to effective public education.

          She said ?we tally the cases by weeks and since January we now have a total of 1, 091 cases, that?s as at Sunday and out of that about half actually occurred last Sunday so the cases are going up.

            Cholera outbreak in Eastern Region kills 3

            Report from the Eastern Regional Health Directorate has revealed that there has been a cholera outbreak in the region. About 93 cases with three deaths have been recorded in five districts as at today.

            According to the Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Erasmus Agongo who disclosed this to a GBC correspondent in Koforidua in an interview, mentioned Birim Central Municipality, Suhum-Kraboa Coaltar, Lower Manya Krobo, Akuapem South and New Juaben Municipality as the areas affected by the outbreak.

            Cholera Outbreak: 19 Deaths Recorded

            The death toll from the Cholera outbreak in the capital has risen to 19 with one thousand two hundred cases being recorded. Health officials have warned that the cases could increase if individuals do not take care of themselves.

            Dr Ato Eshun, a disease Control Officer at the Ghana Health Service attributed the deaths to late reportage of cases.

              Cholera Outbreak: 25 Dead, 1773 Infections Recorded
              Date: 20-Apr-2012

              The Ghana Health Service says the death toll from the current Cholera Outbreak has risen to 25. The number can however go further when final field inspection works in the Eastern region is completed on Friday.

              Two separate teams of health officials left Accra for the various regions to examine the severity of the outbreak and to assess their readiness to fight the disease.

              The National Public Health Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Kwesi Amankwah told XYZ News in an interview that for the past sixteen weeks 1773 people have been infected mainly in Greater Accra and the Eastern regions...

                Cholera Death Toll Rises

                THE DEATH toll from the cholera outbreak in Accra and its environs is now over 30 and the number is still rising.

                Sources at the Ghana Health Service (GHS) say over 30 people have died from the latest outbreak which is becoming a perennial problem.

                Media reports on Friday put the figures at 25 and it was expected the figures would rise tremendously especially when anticipated field reports from the Eastern region arrive.

                      The Jomoro District Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has appealed passionately to government, benevolent societies and philanthropists to help acquire the necessary drugs to deal with the outbreak of cholera at Elubo area.
                      Madam Shallot Dankwa, Acting District Director of health, made the appeal at half Assini on Friday when addressing the newly formed district cholera Outbreak Rapid Respond Team.
                      According to her the Cholera cases at the Elubo Health Centre has increased from 33 on May 12 to 110 on May 17 this year, adding that two persons have so far died.

                        Greater Accra records highest cholera cases

                        The Ghana Health Service says it hasn?t recorded any cholera fatality in the last 3 weeks in the Greater Accra region. According to the service, there has been a decline in the number of recorded cases in the region despite the onset of the rains.

                        The total number of deaths recorded so far stands at 15. Greater Accra Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Irene Agyapong ?Amartefio however appealed for extreme cautiousness since the weather conditions could worsen the now stable condition.

                        She said " as at the end of last week which we?d call week 20 of the year we had come down to 169 cases and that?s really good because we hit almost 600.

                            OVER 4,000 CASES and 64 deaths have been recorded nationwide following the cholera outbreak that hit the country during the first quarter of the year, according to available statistics.

                              Ghana: Navrongo Records More Cases of Cholera - Two Killed So Far
                              11 JUNE 2012

                              Between May 27 and June 6, 2012, Navrongo has recorded 43 cases of cholera, with two deaths. Last month, Navrongo, capital of the Kassena-Nankana East District, and Paga, capital of the Kassena-Nankana West District, recorded 14 cases and one death each.

                              The Medical Superintendent at the War Memorial Hospital, Navrongo, Dr. Abdulai Forgor, told this reporter in a telephone interview that since the outbreak of cholera in the town, the hospital records cases of the disease on a daily basis.
