    Six confirmed cholera cases spur Public Health scramble


    Santo Domingo.- The Public Health Ministry yesterday confirmed six cases of cholera of 160 tested since last week in the towns of Tamboril and Moca, near Santiago, where its population was advised to improve hygiene at home.

    It said lab tests on patients with symptoms including diarrhea tested positive for cholera, but affirmed that the outbreak is under control in the communities Canca, Tamboril and Ceiba de Madera, in Moca.

    SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic ? The cholera epidemic may be making a comeback in the Dominican Republic.

    Health officials are investigating what could be a new cholera outbreak in the northern Dominican Republic, where one woman died and more than 200 people have sought medical attention, Health Minister Bautista Rojas said Thursday.

    He cautioned that only six of the more than 200 cases have been confirmed as cholera, including that of a 64-year-old woman who died on Wednesday. The remaining patients exhibit cholera symptoms but are awaiting confirmation through lab tests, he said...

        Number of cholera cases declines in Tamboril

        Santo Domingo.? Of the 16 confirmed deaths from cholera until April 14 this year in the Dominican Republic, four are linked to the outbreak that still remains in the Tamboril municipality, in Santiago.

        According to the latest bulletin by Public Health authorities, 206 suspected cases were reported until the middle of the month, of which 53 were under laboratory investigation with a positivity of 13% and four deaths.

        Among the latest cases reported, including deaths, 159 are residents in Canca La Piedra, El Arenaso, Los Polanco and Tamboril downtown...

            Two more deaths because of cholera

            Santiago, DR.? Two persons with symptoms similar to cholera died in Santiago, health sources reported as the country is carrying out a campaign against several diseases.

                On cholera, the system notified the affected add 31, of whom 19 were hospitalized. The total is 6.246 Suspected cases so far in 2012. The Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO) recommends taking action to update their preparedness and response plans and strengthen their surveillance systems for early detection of outbreaks.

                It reaffirms Member States to continue their efforts and implement actions to improve water quality and sanitation conditions.
