Ten people have been hospitalized in Russia's Altai Territory over suspected exposure to anthrax, according to local emergency officials.
Earlier, officials reported that at least one person had died on Saturday from anthrax poisoning, while three others from the village of Druzhba were confirmed infected. A total of seven had been hospitalized for tests, officials said.
The victim became infected after handling the carcass of an infected cow. Doctors said he sought medical aid only a week after developing symptoms.
A total of 32 people in the Altai Territory are belived to have come into contact with infected animals, all of which are under medical supervision, according to officials
Druzhba, population 740, was quarantined and vaccination ordered for all animals. Stray animals are also being killed to contain the outbreak.

Five of the 14 people recently taken to hospitals in Russia's Altai Territory are showing anthrax-like symptoms.
The diagnosis of three of these five people has already been confirmed by laboratory tests. One of them has died.
One of those hospitalized is a resident of the village of Marushka, and the others live in Druzhba village, a spokesman for the local Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Industry Department told Interfax.

Russia?s Altai region in West Siberia has had an anthrax outbreak, said the country?s food safety watchdog, known as Rosselkhoznadzor.
A man was diagnosed with anthrax after slaughtering a cow in the village of Bystry Istok in mid-October, Rosselkhoznadzor said in an e-mailed statement today. The cow might have been infected with anthrax spores at a local pasture, the service said. No other animals or people in the area have infection symptoms yet.
