All provinces ready to combat cholera

        30 January 2013

"All Provinces and districts in the country have been empowered to manage the outbreak of at least fifty cases of infectious diarrheal diseases.

This follows cholera outbreak in Lupaula province last week that has claimed four lives.

Health minister Joseph Kasonde has told a media briefing that all the provinces were physically checked on epidemic preparedness for diarrheal diseases.

Dr Kasonde says districts sharing boarders with other countries have been instructed to create health desks at each border point.

...Among the affected areas, Nchelenge district has recorded seven admissions with eight under treatment, Mwense three admissions with three under treatment, Mwansa had no admissions but three under treatment.

In total Luapula province has recorded ten new admissions while fourteen are under treatment.

...?It is actually the first time that an army barrack has cholera cases, at least this one, as long as I can remember,? said another resident."
