Officials count 10 confirmed cases of type A flu in Grant County
"Blue Mountain Hospital laboratory officials have confirmed 10 cases of type A influenza in Grant County since Dec. 17.
No information was available regarding the ages of those affected.
Grant County schools were hit hard by illness in December, with many students staying home sick in the week before Christmas break.
The wave of illnesses and concerns about flu prompted Grant County Health Department staff to visit Prairie City School just before the break, collecting nasal swab samples from sick students for testing.
Many students were absent from Grant Union Junior-Senior High School the second full week of December.
Grant Union secretary Judy Schuette said the absences ranged from 57 students to about 65 each day that week ? the most she?s seen absent in her several years at the school.
