    A 39-year-old man died of meningococcal disease this week and San Diego health officials are checking to see if the case might be linked to an outbreak of the illness in Tijuana, county officials announced Friday.

    The unidentified man is the second man to die of the disease in the region in four months...

    An unexpected increase in meningitis in Mexico has prompted San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) to alert local school officials.

    Tijuana has reported at least 17 cases of meningococcal disease since Jan. 4 an official with HHSA confirmed to NBC 7 San Diego. There have been five deaths...

      More Meningitis Cases In SoCal May Be Linked To Tijuana Outbreak

      ...More meningitis cases in Southern California from last November and December may also be connected to the Tijuana outbreak, said Steve Waterman, MD, MPH, lead for the Center for Disease Control?s (CDC) U.S. Mexico Unit.

      "So right now there?s actually 13 cases that are considered possibly part of this cluster in San Diego, Los Angeles and San Bernadino Counties," said Waterman.

      Waterman said the Southern California strains match, but data results from Mexico have not yet been confirmed...

        Kaitlyn Dobrow has been hospitalized at UC Irvine Medical Center since February following surgeries to amputate parts of all four of her limbs, along with suffering severe skin damage...
