    Test Kits

Testing procedures are running low. Reference is made to using the rapid test kits, but they will not be available for 9 months...

Nguyen Van Kinh, Director of the Institute of infectious diseases and tropical countries, said from the start to this season and the Institute received 116 of influenza A/H1N1 infection, there are still 35 songs are treated here . However, because of the patient to examine and test skyrocketing in recent days the subject of influenza A/H1N1 tests were running low. Dr. Nguyen Tran Hien, Director of Institute of hygiene epidemiology Center, also informed of the status of products exhausted in hospital hygiene and epidemiology in the country. Of this unit is the subject of testing services within a week again. Mr. Hien said that recently, the World Health provided 500 to the test with the accuracy to 98.9%, the result after 15 minutes but all try and use only enough to 9 months.

    And mentioned here:

Dr. Nguyen Tran Hien, Director of Institute of hygiene and from that beginning of season and to date, Vietnam is using the resources of test and tested by WHO and other sponsoring organizations. Up to now, exhausted and can only enough for 1 more week. Status Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang, Vietnam is also similar. Recently, WHO has also provided 500 additional samples of diagnostic products (testkit) with accuracy to 98.9%, the result after 15 minutes for the test. However, with the number of influenza A/H1N1 BN increases as the current number of samples and this is only enough to use 9 months.

Here the article talks of the facilities that test, and the number of tests per day, which they can not accommodate:

VietNamNet Bridge ? The National Hospital for Tropical and Infectious Diseases is running out of kits to test for A/H1N1, said the hospital?s director Nguyen Tien Kinh on August 5.[/i]
Kinh said the hospital receives 300 to 500 people who come for A/H1N1 tests a day. Many of them have symptoms of flu but the hospital only conducts tests on those who have had contact with A/H1N1 patients, show clear symptoms of A/H1N1 and have just returned to Vietnam from A/H1N1-stricken countries and territories.
With only two testing machines, the hospital is incapable of performing 300 tests per day. Meanwhile, each test costs $200.
The Central Epidemiology Institute?s chief Nguyen Tran Hien also gave a similar picture of the situations at the institute?s branches in Nha Trang city, HCM City and in the Central Highlands.
Hien said these sub-institutes have enough testing kits for the next week.

Here I post an article on the reliability of the Rapid Test Kits:

Re: Vietnam: Commonground Comments on Transmissibility

August 4th & 5th, we get a few articles on patients reacting slowly to Tamiflu:

At the hospital in private Nguyen Khuyen, because only 1 patient (test results 3 times still positive for H1N1) should the student has transferred to BV Tropical Diseases treated from 1 / 8. At the health of students and this stability will be in a few days.

Re: Vietnam: Commonground Comments on Transmissibility

          Introduce articles on asymptomatic cases....

          August 8th:

          * Many cases of positive but not manifesting symptoms
In Vietnam there have been several cases of influenza A/H1N1 positive but not manifesting symptoms (typically those of the staff of Thong Nhat Hospital). Therefore, according to doctors Asia, with people exposed to flu patients, whether or not symptoms also should be supervised.
          http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/sho...29&postcount=1
          and here:

On 7 / 8, Ministry of Health has made 10 recommendations to prevent H1N1 flu in the workplace. In particular, note:

People infected with the virus can be transmitted even when the disease manifests no symptoms.
          http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/sho...08&postcount=1
          and here:
Anyone having physical contact with influenza A (H1N1) patients must be closely monitored afterward, whether or not they have symptoms, the Ho Chi Minh City health authority told a press briefing Friday.

The meeting was called amid rising number of flu patients throughout the country. Nguyen Van Chau, director of the city Health Department, said several people in HCMC had tested positive for the H1N1 virus without showing any signs of sickness.

Re: Vietnam: Commonground Comments on Progress of H1N1 in Vietnam

You have documented ease of transmissibility, the presence of Tamiflu resistance, and the presence of asymptomatic cases all in that one country where they are still testing, apparently.

Easy to imagine what is flying under the radar elsewhere after reading this.

Yes, I believe it's posts this this one, that bring the information we gather together.
I am pretty aware of the progress in Vietnam. And I think it is important to put the knowledge I'm getting, into one summary.

I think by doing this, it let's others see exactly what is going on. The information has always been in the threads. But by combining it into a summary, it helps the members of this site see the "whole picture".

I think we should concentrate on these aspects. This is what we need to be looking for.
              Transmissibility.
              Tamiflu Resistance.
              Asymptomatic cases.
