Influenza A H1N1 continues to threaten to Honduras. Health officials this afternoon confirmed three new cases of the virus.

To date, add 616 patients infected by the H1N1 flu nationwide remain unchanged and the 16 deaths.

Dr. Marco Pinel, Head of Epidemiological Surveillance of the Health Ministry said in recent weeks the control cases in Honduras has been effective and the same has been reduced, but reminded that it is possible a second wave of disease.

"Anytime we have an outbreak of H1N1 flu, then that would mean we would call this a second wave," said the doctor.

He also explained that stage, this could cause problems in the health system, since the increase would cause an overload of cases in hospitals.

                              Respiratory diseases are increased

The director of Hospital Escuela in Tegucigalpa, John Baker, reported that emergency room care center is crowded with patients with respiratory diseases, resulting from the cold front swept across Honduras.

"The cold temperatures, pollution and the wind whips dust are the main forms of contagion," the doctor said.

According to Baker, children, elderly and people with chronic illnesses are most affected, and therefore recommended that kept warm to protect against low temperatures.

TEGUCIGALPA .- Health officials yesterday confirmed four new cases of influenza A (H1N1), three are for the previous year and one to 2010.

To prevent the spread of the virus, doctors recommend that patients use a mask.
The head of Epidemiological Surveillance, Marco Pinel, there are several cases reported in research to be confirmed or discarded by the Reporting Committee this week.

"We have confirmed four new cases of influenza A (H1N1), three are of those who were awaiting certification of 2009 and only one is part of the contagion of this year," Pinel said.

He said that this virus remains in the country, but causing no contagion, however, is not excluded that there is a new wave of this disease in the course of the year, but will hopefully not be as deadly.

So far recorded 623 cases of the virus and 16 deaths in the country, cases were registered from May of 2009, with infection reported in just this January.

The doctors recommended washing hands permanently, as it is one of the most effective measures to prevent transmission of influenza A H1N1, like coughing or sneezing in the forearm and not your hands.

Also, those with flu are advised to use a mask to prevent spreading the virus and that in case of complications come immediately to public health centers.

The most common symptoms of the disease include severe headache, high fever, vomiting, abdominal pain and malaise.
