US, Japan forces start massive search
The US military and Japan's Self-Defense Forces have launched a massive operation to find those still missing in the March 11th earthquake and tsunami.
The joint operation started on Friday, 3 weeks after the disaster. More than 16,000 people remain missing.
In the morning, helicopters of the Ground Self-Defense Force left their base in Sendai City to join the search mission.....

Over 28,000 dead or missing
The death toll from the March 11th quake and tsunami in northeastern Japan has risen to 11,578.
The National Police Agency said on Friday morning that 16,451 people are listed as missing, bringing the number of dead or missing to over 28,000.
The largest number of deaths --- 7,058 --- has been confirmed in Miyagi Prefecture, followed by Iwate with 3,396 and Fukushima with 1,064.
9,260 of the confirmed dead have been identified and 9,043 bodies have been returned to families.....

Seabed surge caused tsunamis
Japanese researchers say they have discovered that the seabed rose as much as 5 meters near the focus of the massive earthquake that struck off northeastern Japan on March 11th.
The research team was led by Ryota Hino, an Associate Professor at Tohoku University's Research Center for the Prediction of Earthquakes and Volcanic Eruptions....

Foreign exodus from Japan after disaster
NHK has learned that at least 20,000 foreign nationals have left Japan since the massive earthquake and the start of radiation leaks from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
NHK conducted a survey this week on the disaster's impact on diplomatic missions in Japan. Those of 46 countries and territories responded......

Quake may halt Suzuki's overseas production
The chairman of Suzuki Motor has indicated that the company may have to stop production at its overseas plants as early as May, as the disaster that hit Japan on March 11th is making it difficult to procure components.
Osamu Suzuki told reporters on Friday that the automaker's main overseas plant in India and other production bases can operate for now, as components shipped before the quake are being delivered to them.....
