Mystery surrounds the extent of swine flu spread in the state and the gravity of the situation. The state government claims that the number of patients has started to show a decline over the last few days and the virus is coming under control, but it has cancelled the weekly off days and holidays of the medical and paramedical staff involved in treatment of the patients.
Besides, state-wide statistics on the disease has also not been released since March 16

Rajkot Civil Hospital Medical Superintendent R B Deshmukh said, ?There were an average of 20 patients admitted to the hospital until three days ago. The figure has fallen suddenly. Today (Sunday) we have only 10 patients, two of whom are on ventilator. As per the figure I have, there have been 33 deaths in our hospital so far. But I am sure the casualty is falling now.?

Vadodara Civil Hospital Medical Superintendent Rajiv Deveshwar also said admissions were falling. ?Right now we have only seven patients, including a child. The situation is under control. We respond to situation (staff strength) as per need.?
