Measles cases have now risen to 1,170 after another 28 cases have been reported in Wales since Tuesday.

The rate appears to be slowing down but health bosses are continuing to encourage children and young people aged between 10 and 18 to get vaccinated as the outbreak continues.

It has mainly focused on the Swansea area with 1,039 of the cases being the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg, Hywel Dda and Powys health board areas and 85 people have been hospitalised since the outbreak started in November...

Measles outbreak claims its first life: Tests confirm 25-year-old from South Wales did die from the disease

Please be aware that this newspaper article is extremely misleading. Tests have merely confirmed that a man infected with measles has died. The inquest into his death was opened and adjourned - as yet the cause of death has not been determined.

Measles outbreak: Fears about spread of disease in Gwent as cases rise again
                  10 May 2013 13:03
                  By Alison Sanders

Health officials say they are worried about the scope for further cases in the Gwent area - where 10,000 young people have not been vaccinated

The number of measles cases now stands at 1,243 across Wales - prompting renewed fears that outbreaks may start to be seen outside the Swansea area.

After 19 further cases since Tuesday, there have now been 1,074 cases of measles in the area affected by the outbreak.

But health officials are now particularly concerned about the Gwent area where 84 measles cases have been reported since November and where almost 10,000 young people aged 10 to 18 are still not vaccinated...

Swansea measles: Cases rise by 20 to 1,094

Measles cases in the Swansea epidemic have risen by 20 in the last five days to 1,094 as health chiefs warn the uptake of MMR is too low to eliminate the disease in Wales.

Public Health Wales (PHW) continues to warn that the outbreak may spread.

It said 95% uptake of MMR would prevent further outbreaks.

But vaccination rates remained low in Wales, especially among those aged 10 to 18 who are hardest hit...

Measles: Staff sent home to stop spread
May 17 2013 by Stephen Houston, Ayrshire Post

Nurses, doctors and theatre staff at threat of measles have been ordered HOME as bosses mount a frantic battle to stop an epidemic.

The drastic move comes after NHS Ayrshire & Arran RAN OUT of measles immunity test kits.

They are worried the contagious disease will spread like wildfire in Ayrshire hospitals.

It follows a local measles outbreak which has already infected a nurse at Crosshouse.

And with many patients having weakened immune systems there are serious concerns it could already have spread.

Staff in contact with anyone with measles have already been told to stay away from hospitals on full pay for up to THREE weeks...
