Between 50-65 current sus cases in Egypt as of 01/22
Ok. So I went through the reports for the last couple of weeks to try to come up with a suspected case count. At the moment I count between 50-65 suspected cases of bf in Egypt.
I'm certain this count is not accurate for a number of reasons. For one, we probably haven't heard about every suspected case in the last few weeks -- we just know about the ones that have been discovered in news reports. We also probably haven't heard about all the suspected cases who have tested negative and have been sent home already -- some people seem to have been on the list for an awfully long time. Then again, one patient in Tanta Hosp who was first reported on 01/06 -- Hager Abdul Hadi -- was still in the hospital as of 01/22, so you never know....
In addition, the reports are sometimes vague -- "6 people admitted to hospital in Tanta" -- with no names and so it's sometimes difficult to tell if they're dupes. Thus, the range in the count.
And, finally, human error -- I coulda missed something going through the threads and/or mis-counted!
Some notes -- the dates are the news report dates on the patients -- not necessarily admission dates. Red = positive, green = negative, plain black = pending.
Any questions or omissions, lemme know!

45-50 sus cases in Egypt as of 01/23
Updated this list -- added 1 news supected case from Al Minya who is hospitalized in Cairo because she began having symptoms while visiting family in Cairo. And, I removed all of the negatives to date so the list can be viewed more clearly. I also revised the totals 'cause my count was a bit off yesterday (counted some negatives by mistake!).
I also checked through all of the named cases and as far as I can tell there are no dupes -- all of the named sus cases on this list, then, are unique sus cases that are/have been hospitalized.
I also tried to look for potential clusters. I came up with 4 -- maybe 7 -- potential clusters:
- There are 4 females from one family reported to be in hospital in Al Fayyum. They sounded suspiciously like the "someone" and their 3 daughters from Sohag/Suhaj and I wondered if they may have been transferred from Suhaj to Al Fayyum. I have no idea how likely that is -- so we may be looking at 2 groups of four family members that are hospitalized.
- I thought perhaps Al Fayyum patient Hanan Ramadan Mohammed's husband was also a sus case, but it really wasn't clear from the article I machine-translated. He's a maybe.
- 3 people from the same village in Al Gharbiyah were hospitalized in Mahalla Hospital -- Sabah Ibrahim Al Fakharani, "child Mohamed Farahat the head" and Nahed Al Amrousi are all from a village "by us Abu Seer" belonging to Samanoud center.
- 2 people from the same village in Bani Suwayf were hospitalized in Bani Suwayf Fevers Hospital -- Nvadi Sulayman/Aya Nfadi Solaiman and Badriyah Abed Abdallah are both reportedly from Hassan Musa, of Izbat Shanawih/Al Shnawea village.
- Amal Hassan Fawzi and her daughter were tranferred to Zagazig Fevers Hospital on 12/26. They may have been released by now -- haven't had any follow-up info on them.
- I thought maybe Shawker Muhammad Ali and Nahla Mohamed Mahmoud in Qina might be related because they were reported together and one is an adult and one a teenager, but there's no way to be sure at the moment.
Notes -- the dates are the news report dates on the patients -- not necessarily admission dates. Red = positive, green = negative, plain black = pending. Newly added case(s) in bold.
Any questions or omissions, lemme know!
