Anyone want to give some feedback as to the reference here to "Level Five"?

No [she says as she runs around the room screaming & waving hands in the air...].

In the hopes that they're talking about poultry and not people (and I'm not at all sure about that), I tried to find some info -- any info -- on either the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture site and/or the Jatim Province site about bf levels in poultry or even about the current situation in Jatim [East Java], but I didn't have any luck.

I sure hope they're not talking about situation in humans....

I'm gonna call it as Level 5 in poultry. The news stories -- while they mention all the human cases in East Java to date -- are mainly about the local authorities trying to get funding organized for more vaccines for poultry (not vaccines for people, of course). The recap of human cases is 'background', I think. If it were Level 5 in humans, I'd assume they'd be looking to do more than purchase more poultry vaccines.

I'll keep looking for more. In any case, it's not good news....

I thought the same thing as in birds but the more i think about it,why would they have a level 5 in birds?It's already level 6 in birds,and cats and other animals that can carry H5N1,they are dying by the millions, and many have been dying there a long time or have been culled.I've reported chickens,cats,dogs,flies,and people dying from H5N1 there.Do they think any thing else has to be added to a bird level?What is level 6 in birds there? Wild birds dropping out of the sky everyday?Is level 6 every single bird you see there as infected.Heck,it's almost that way now.HMM maybe they are trying to calm people and just saying it's not that bad by calling it "only level 5".If their levels are supposed to be any pandemic type of category we have learned about, level 5 can go to level 6 very quick.Birds or not.

I wish we had some info on the Indonesian government's (Ministry of Agriculture, I presume) epizooic levels. I don't even know how many levels they have -- and I can't find any info on them, darnnit. That would help to shed some light on this question, I think....

I think they may just be saying that East Java has had the fifth-most AI cases of any Indonesian Provence, per the following info from the Ministry of Health site.

Distribution of AI confirmed case until April 7, 2007 is West Java (29 cases, 23 dead), DKI Jakarta (25 cases, 22 dead), Banten (12 cases, 10 dead), North Sumatera (7 cases, 6 dead), East Java (7 cases, 5 dead), Central Java (6 cases, 5 dead), West Sumatera (3 cases, 1 dead), Lampung (3 cases, alive), South Sulawesi (1 case, dead) and South Sumatera (1 case, dead).
