    5 hospitalizations have been reported for the season (2 adult; 3 children)

    ? Influenza activity remained low in Washington during week 3 (1/15/12?1/21/12).
    ? During week 3, 13 (5.2%) of 248 specimens tested by the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Laboratories in Washington were positive for influenza. During the past four weeks, 79% of positive specimens have been influenza A viruses. Almost all subtyped influenza A specimens were influenza A H3 viruses.
    ? The proportion of outpatient and emergency room visits for influenza-like illness (ILI) remained low.

        • Influenza activity increased slightly in Washington during week 5 (1/29/12–2/4/12).
        • During week 5, 12 (5.2&#37 of 233 specimens tested by the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Laboratories in Washington were positive for influenza. During the past four weeks, 79% of positive specimens have been influenza A viruses. Almost all subtyped influenza A specimens were influenza A H3 viruses.
        • The proportion of outpatient visits for influenza-like illness (ILI) increased to above baseline, while emergency room visits for influenza-like illness (ILI) remained low.

            Influenza activity continued to slowly increase in Washington during week 7 (2/12/12–2/18/12).

            During week 7, 22 (7.3&#37 of 302 specimens tested by the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Laboratories in Washington were positive for influenza. During the past four weeks, 81% of positive specimens have been influenza A viruses. Almost all subtyped influenza A specimens were influenza A H3 viruses.

            Both the proportion of outpatient visits for influenza-like illness (ILI) and emergency room visits for influenza-like illness (ILI) remained below baseline.

              ? During week 8, 31 (11.6%) of 268 specimens tested by the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Laboratories in Washington were positive for influenza. During the past four weeks, 78% of positive specimens have been influenza A viruses. Of the subtyped influenza A specimens, 69% were influenza A H3 viruses. There has been an increase in detection of influenza A (2009 H1N1) viruses over the past 2 weeks.
              ? Both the proportion of outpatient visits for influenza-like illness (ILI) and emergency room visits for influenza-like illness remained below baseline.

                    Spokane Regional Health District requires that their hospitals and providers report patients hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza. Since July 24, 2011, 62 adults and 11 children hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza have been reported among Spokane County residents.

                    ILI: 4.1%
                    17.9% for influenza
                    P&I deaths: 10.6%

                      • Testing data from sentinel laboratories suggested that influenza activity is at peak levels in Eastern Washington and reaching peak levels in Western Washington.
                      • The proportions of outpatient and emergency room visits for influenza-like illness (ILI) were just below the baseline.

                            • In Western Washington, the proportion of emergency room visits for ILI remained elevated but was lower than peak levels observed during recent seasons (excluding the pandemic). Of specimens tested at sentinel laboratories in Western Washington, 34% were positive for influenza. Detections of both influenza A and influenza B viruses through these laboratories increased during week 15.
                            • In Eastern Washington, the proportion of emergency room visits for ILI was below baseline and detections of influenza viruses through sentinel laboratories continued to slowly decrease.

                                Spokane Regional Health District requires that their hospitals and providers report patients hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza. Since July 24, 2011, 91 adults and 21 children hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza have been reported among Spokane County residents.
