Week 5:
NYS
The overall level of flu activity is currently low and appears to be stable when compared to last week.
Hospitalizations for flu are stable when compared to last week.
There were no pediatric influenza-associated deaths in NYS (including NYC) reported this week.
There have been no pediatric influenza-associated deaths in NYS (including NYC) this season.
NYC
* Influenza activity in NYC currently is low.
* Influenza-like-illness visits are at 2.2% of all weekly visits, which is below the Mid-Atlantic and
national baselines.
* Approximately 1% of all specimens submitted for influenza testing were positive for influenza; 8
specimens were positive for Flu A and 2 specimens were positive for Flu B. In addition, 18% of
specimens tested were positive for RSV. Influenza A specimens subtyped within the last several
weeks at several laboratories were identified as both H3N2 and 2009H1N1.
