    Tamiflu-resistant swine flu virus detected

The Department of Health's Public Health Laboratory Services Branch has detected a strain of human swine influenza virus resistant to Tamiflu. This is the sixth case of Tamiflu resistance detected in Hong Kong.

The virus sample was taken from a three-year-old boy who developed flu-like symptoms on August 16. He was admitted to Queen Mary Hospital on August 20. He was discharged two days later.

There is no evidence of further transmission of Tamiflu-resistant human swine flu from the patient.

The case will be reported to the World Health Organisation.
