    People with flu-like illness
    Estimates suggest that flu-like activity ? that is, the number of people with flu-like symptoms seeing their GP ? is currently low. For week 46 (ending 20 November 2011), the weekly primary care consultation rate for flu-like illness in England was 8.7 per 100,000.

    Uptake of flu vaccine
    Vaccine uptake is higher than the same week last year.

    ■68% of people aged 65 or over have had the flu jab, compared to 62% last year.
    ■44% of patients under 65 in clinical risk groups have had the flu jab compared with 36% last year.
    ■Uptake in pregnant women is much higher than it was last year: 22% compared with 3% at this point last year.
    The Department has published data at national, SHA and Trust level on uptake of the seasonal flu vaccine among GP patients, including pregnant women, and frontline healthcare workers during October.

    Admissions to intensive care units
    Since early October, there has been a total of ten flu admissions to intensive care units (ICUs) reported across the UK. There have been no deaths from confirmed influenza in ICUs reported so far.

    Uptake of flu vaccine
    Vaccine uptake is higher than the same week last year.

    69% of people aged 65 or over have had the flu jab, compared to 65% last year.
    45% of patients under 65 in clinical risk groups have had the flu jab compared with 39% last year.
    Uptake in pregnant women is much higher than it was last year: 23% compared with 3% at this point last year.
    The Department has published data at national, SHA and trust level on uptake of the flu vaccine among GP patients, including pregnant women, and the uptake in frontline healthcare workers during October.

      ■47% of patients under 65 in clinical risk groups have had the flu jab compared with 40% last year.
      ■Uptake in pregnant women is much higher than it was last year: 24% compared with 5% at this point last year.
      The Department has published data at national, SHA and trust level on uptake of the flu vaccine among GP patients, including pregnant women, and the uptake in frontline healthcare workers as at the end of October.

      Admissions to intensive care units
      Since early October, there have been 15 flu-related admissions to intensive care units (ICUs) reported across the UK. There has been one death from confirmed influenza in ICUs reported so far.

        Uptake in pregnant women is much higher than it was last year: 25% compared with 6% at this point last year.
        40% of healthcare workers have had the flu vaccine so far this winter, compared to 17.6% at the same point last year.
        The Department has today (15 December 2011) published data at national, SHA and trust level on the uptake of flu vaccine among GP patients, including pregnant women, as at the end of November.

        Admissions to intensive care units
        Since early October, there have been 18 flu-related admissions to intensive care units (ICUs) reported across the UK. There has been one death from confirmed influenza in ICUs reported so far.

                      The weekly collection of flu vaccine uptake data which runs from November to end January has now ceased. The figures below are therefore unchanged from last week.

                      Vaccine uptake in England is higher than last year except for pregnant women.

                      73.9% of people aged 65 or over have had the flu jab, compared with 72.6% last year.
                      51.4% of patients under 65 in clinical risk groups have had the flu jab compared with 49.8% last year.
                      26.4% of pregnant women have had the flu jab compared with 37.5% last year.
                      Admissions to intensive care units
                      Since early October, there have been 103 flu-related admissions to intensive care units (ICUs) reported across the UK. There have been five deaths from confirmed influenza in ICUs reported so far this flu season.

                            The provisional end of season vaccination uptake rates show the following position at the end of January.

                            ■74% of people aged 65 or over have had the flu jab.
                            ■52% of patients under 65 in clinical risk groups have had the flu jab.
                            ■45% of frontline healthcare workers have had the flu jab.

                            Admissions to intensive care units
                            Since early October, there have been 143 flu-related admissions to intensive care units (ICUs) reported across the UK. There have been seven deaths from confirmed influenza in ICUs reported so far this flu season.
