JAKARTA: A 32-year-old Indonesian woman died from bird flu at her home after being forced to check out of a hospital by her family, the Health Ministry said on Monday raising the country's death toll from the disease to 95.
Two laboratory tests confirmed she was infected with the H5N1 strain of the virus, said Joko Suyono, an official at the Bird Flu Information Center.
The woman from the western outskirts of the capital, Jakarta, came down with severe pneumonia and went to a hospital on Wednesday. Her family signed a forced release form the next day and she died an hour after being checked out, Suyono said. It was unclear why her relatives did not want her to be treated at the hospital.
