They deny the relation of the death of 250 birds with the bird influenza
Feb 21, 2006
The Colombian authorities denied today that the death of 250 hens and chickens in one week in farms of the department of Cesar (North) is related to the bird influenza.
The Farming Colombian Institute (ICA) indicated that the birds that died in the Gloria and Aguachica (700 kilometers to the north of Bogota), were affected by the well-known disease like aspergilosis, that does not suppose danger for the human health.
The loss of life of birds ' was caused by a fungus that untied the aspergilosis, disease that appears in the birds by inadequate conditions in galpones', indicated journalists Angela Neira, technique of the ICA.
The happened thing ' does not have gravity and it does not represent any risk for población', added.
Colombia is the first producer of chicken of the Andean Community of Nations (DOG), group also formed by Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.
In last October an isolated case and of low danger of bird influenza in a farm of the department of the Tolima was detected (the west).
For that reason the bird-raising exports of products to the countries of the DOG were closed, with losses by about 5 million dollars for the Colombian industralists.
The case of bird influenza detected the 6 of October in a bird-raising farm of Ash (Tolima, 300 kilometers to the west of Bogota), but according to experts the detected virus is of the H9 type, that is of more low patogenidad and different from the H5N1, that has caused the death to humans.
