Puerto Rico reported 19 deaths from swine flu

SAN JUAN (AP) - The number of deaths from the swine flu rose to 19 Friday, seven more than those reported until Monday.

Acting Secretary of Health, Ricardo Moscoso, said that 20 other deaths are kept as "intractable" and 19 are still under suspicion that they were caused by swine influenza virus.

"A death-related (influenza) is unsolvable A H1N1 means that the sample never arrived at the Department of Health, for which the Department can not identify whether the death was related to the virus or not," he said in a statement.

According to Moscoso, the number of confirmed cases of swine flu amounts to 258, while the number of infections is likely 2045.

SAN JUAN (AP) - appointed secretary of Health, Lorenzo Gonzalez, reported Thursday that the confirmed deaths in Puerto Rico because the swine flu added 30.

Gonzales stressed that "there is no indication to close schools."

"The fact that reporting a sick child or school employee is no reason to close the campus. Only if the identification of a large outbreak of sick people in a school, then would assess the situation and, if necessary , then we recommend the closure, "he said.

The health secretary, Lorenzo González Feliciano, reported today that total deaths from the virus AH1N1 is 33.

Increase to 34 swine flu deaths in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN (AP) - The number of deaths due to infection of swine flu rose to 34 in Puerto Rico, said Health Secretary-designate, Lorenzo Gonzalez.

He said that the suspicious deaths dropped to five. The number of confirmed cases is 390 and the likely total 2.205.


While insisting on the need to maintain hygiene measures to prevent the spread of swine flu, the high leadership of the Department of Health asked to take action against dengue, as the month of September is the period of greatest transmission of this virus.

"We urge the community to take all measures to prevent the removal of all artificial breeding capable of storing water, (that) after eight days and is a focus of dengue transmission," said Patricia Cano, Program Director Dengue agency.

He said that, to date there had been only one death related to the virus transmitted by mosquito bite, that of a 10 year old boy who died about a month ago.

SAN JUAN (AP) - The Health Department reported on Tuesday a new death attributed to the swine flu bringing the death toll for this lethal disease to 36 in Puerto Rico.

The Secretary of Health Concepcion Quinones said in a statement that the island has confirmed 501 cases of the virus AH1N1.
