Berlin(Reuters) - Germany plans to sell over two million vaccines against H1N1 to other countries due to weak domestic demand, said Tuesday the German health minister.
Only about 5 percent of the population has been vaccinated, said Health Minister Philip Roesler. Also said it was consulting with other nations to determine if they need part of immunizations and that Ukraine had already expressed interest.
The 2.2 million vaccines will be delivered in late December. German States ordered 50 million doses of immunization which shall be delivered in stages until the spring of 2010.
But only 15 percent of medical professionals in the country have been vaccinated. Regional states in Germany began the vaccination program on October 26.
So far 86 people have died of H1N1.
The H1N1 pandemic continues to spread and has killed 8,750 people worldwide, according to the latest figures from the European Center for Prevention and Disease Control.
