BIRATNAGAR: With 253 inmates of the overcrowded Morang district prison in the grip of viral influenza, the jail administration is in panic. It fears that the disease might spread fast among all 413 inmates.

The patients are under doctors? constant observation, according to the jail administration. Apart from the prisoners, eleven security personnel have taken ill.

Nabaraj Subba, chief, District Health office, says his office has sent medicines and 400 masks to control the disease.

?We have also informed the Department of Health about the viral outbreak,? according to Subba.

However, the disease has not yet spread in the female prison nearby, which houses 40 inmates.
