The first flu hospitalizations of the flu season have been reported in El Paso County. Two infants have been hospitalized, according to the El Paso County Department of Health and Environment.
?We expect to see an increase in flu activity throughout the holidays, and encourage everyone to get vaccinated and be conscientious about practicing flu prevention behaviors,? Bernadette Albanese, medical director of the county health department, said in a statement. ?These reported hospitalizations serve as a reminder of the seriousness of flu, especially in infants.?
During the 2008-2009 flu season, there were 102 hospitalizations due to flu. El Paso County reported 188 hospitalizations and one infant death during the 2009-2010 H1N1 pandemic.
