The overall level of flu activity is currently low and appears to be decreasing when compared to last week.
The number of people hospitalized with flu is currently 38 and appears to be decreasing when compared to last week.
The number of pediatric influenza-associated deaths in NYS (including NYC) is currently 0 reported this week.
The total number of pediatric influenza-associated deaths in NYS (including NYC) since October 3, 2010, is 7.
NYC (week 15)
ILI: 1.6%
Four pediatric influenza associated deaths were reported this season.
During Week 15 of 2011, 35 laboratories were contacted, 4% of all specimens submitted for influenza testing were positive for influenza, of which 9 specimens were positive for influenza A by rapid testing and the majority confirmed by viral isolation or PCR. A total of 23 specimens were positive for influenza B which represent 72% of the total positive results. Approximately 4% of specimens submitted for RSV testing were positive.
There were no newly reported influenza outbreaks of respiratory illness at long term care facilities this week.
