    I thought of this terrible stress when I was reading a young woman's recollections of experiencing a major California earthquake as a young child.

    "I have never forgotten the redwoods snapping in half, the eight foot cracks, crumpled earth and the fires from all the propane tanks exploding," Bingham said. "'89 earthquake was so traumatic I don't have any memory before I was age 7. I was outside when the earthquake hit."
    Also I thought of this thread when I was reading comments to an article about the recent earthquake in Virginia. One comment was from a woman in Christchurch. She said she found that she coped better with aftershocks if she heard and felt them as little as possible, so she was playing loud music in her home and would get up and dance during aftershocks.
